How we’re helping consumers navigate the confusion of clean air zones
Clean Air Zones (CAZ) are becoming an increasingly common feature of UK cities. But what is a CAZ?
In short, a CAZ is implemented by a city to improve air quality by implementing restrictions on vehicles that don’t meet a certain emission standard. Vehicles that don’t meet the specified emission standards will be charged to enter the CAZ.
Right now, 15 cities across the UK have introduced some form CAZ with none so expansive as London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone ‘ULEZ’ which is set to expand later this year and charges non-compliant vehicles £12.50.
To avoid such charges, all vehicles must have the following emissions ratings to avoid an automatic charge:
Diesel: Euro 6
Petrol: Euro 4 or higher
With more clean air zones coming soon and consumers increasingly searching for ULEZ-compliant vehicles on our marketplace, we’re introducing some changes to your adverts to help make it easier for consumers to identify compliant vehicles.
These changes are designed to allow them to make a more informed decision about whether to buy the vehicle.
What changes are we making?
Over 80% of all adverts. and 90% of all cars, will have an emission rating.
It places the onus back on to the consumer to investigate the “Clean air zone” or “Ultra low emission zone” regulation in their own regions of interest.
They will be able to find out more information on the clean air zones in the “information” “i” toggle that will also appear on the advert.
This will take them to the government clean air checker.
