Auto Trader Truck, Plant and Farm improvements to help you drive performance in 2023

We’ve been working hard year-round to update and expand our products to ensure truck, plant and farm machinery buyers and sellers can make the most of using Auto Trader. 

Here we showcase some of the powerful updates and improvements we’ve introduced over the last 12 months, and how they’ve helped you to drive your performance and make buying and selling easier. 


Improving our platform to deliver an enhanced consumer experience

Review rating

We made a change to how review star ratings are calculated, reflecting only the last 12-months of reviews. This change means the score is more accurate, which builds more trust with consumers, as buyers place much more value on recent reviews when making a buying decision. 

  • We continually look to improve adverts to better meet buyers needs, which in turn leads to more time spent on your adverts, and this year was no different. We introduced a new gallery grid view allowing consumers to inspect and easily navigate between images at a much faster pace, as well as enabling better vehicle history and condition transparency, helping improve consumer trust and adding specific fields for you to save time.

  • Users of iOS and android apps can now compare vehicles in the same category with our brand new compare tool. The app contains specific fields such as birth which can be compared side by side, keeping your adverts front of mind to buyers.

  • We’re committed to evolving our platform to ensure the best possible search experience for buyers, helping them find your adverts more easily, and engage with them for longer. As part of this commitment, we made some changes to where “Price on Application” adverts appear in search when a customer changes to a price sort order.

Marketing activity

Along with publishing engaging Truck, Plant and Farm social and editorial content, we expended our marketing activity budget and delivered truck paid social advertising directly to your adverts. This attracts more buyers to Auto Trader and more eyes to your adverts. 


Helping your brand new stock stand out

  • We’ve enhanced how you advertise your brand new stock to provide additional clarity to the growing number of buyers that are considering new trucks and plant and farm machinery. You are now able to list “due-in” vehicles that will be with you within the next 6 months as well as indicate when this pipeline stock will be available. 

  • Buyers love to know that they are getting a good deal, and to see how much they are saving. You can now provide full pricing transparency and promote the savings you’re offering off the Manufacturer's Recommended Retail Price (MRRP) to attract more customers to you.

 

Easier and efficient stock management

  • We’ve introduced a simpler and more efficient process to manage your sold stock in Portal meaning you can move stock back into stock easier should a deal fall through, or perform other jobs on the vehicle.

  • We are constantly evolving our technology tool which is designed to improve operational efficiency by enabling two-way connectivity between retailer systems and Auto Trader in real-time and have made several improvements over the past 12 months including adding multiple new fields to stock API for an easier user experience for you.
