Launching our stop-start journey

Introducing our stop-start journey, a seamless omnichannel buying experience, exclusive to Auto Trader and to Deal Builder.

We know that buyers on Auto Trader can often be short on time. Many visit our platform in short sessions and browse across multiple devices. This can cause many potential buyers to ‘drop-off’, especially when completing more of the ‘jobs-to-be’ done online.

When speaking to buyers about their reasons for dropping-off, many stated that they planned to come back and do it later or complete their order on a different device. Without a seamless omnichannel experience, the frustration for buyers is having to restart their purchase journey from the beginning when returning to the platform.

Buyers want to be able to build their deal in their own time, in their own way

With our new stop-start journey, buyers can now jump straight back into building their deal on Auto Trader – continuing from where they left off in their previous session.

Their deal will be saved into their account area, meaning they can pick complete and incomplete deals back up across any of their devices. We’ll also send them an email to remind them that they’ve started a deal with an option to drop back straight into the journey.

We’re continuously monitoring and optimising the journey

Since launching this new functionality, 20% of deals were completed using start-stop. And 85% of these deals were completed across multiple devices.

We will continue to monitor how buyers respond to these changes as we look to optimise the Deal Builder journey for both buyers and retailers.
